?? Do Something Green. On the one hand, it?s a catchy play on words based on our initials. On the other hand, it?s a call to action for individuals and industry alike. After all, we?re in this thing together, whether you?re installing eco-friendly technology for a homeowner or focusing on corporate sustainability for your company. At DSG?s annual management retreat this winter, we read a book called The Green Book: The Everyday Guide to Saving the Planet One Simple Step at a Time, by Elizabeth Rogers and Thomas M. Kostigen. I think it would be safe to say that it opened all of our eyes a little bit. One of the biggest revelations was the simple fact that the ?green movement? isn?t really a movement. After all, mere movements tend to play themselves out and fade away. This is much more of a paradigm shift than that. I think this one is going to stick. So what does that mean to contractors and utilities and municipalities? It means that the rules have changed. Not temporarily, permanently. When you build something, it will be expected to be ecologically sound. When you install something, it better be energy efficient. When you introduce an idea, it should make a positive impact on the environment. That?s what consumers are looking for, and thankfully, that means that ?going green? is also going to be good for business. Now this change isn?t coming overnight. But it?s also true that it?s been ?coming? for 30 years already. It?s just picking up speed. That means that it?s time fo for us to catch up a little, to get out ahead of th the curve. We can?t get away from ideas like LEED (check out our top story), so we better put them to work for us. After all, the only thing as import important as the economy these days is the environment. environmen At DSG, we?re we? ready to put our smart ideas together with your y smart people to make big things happen. Check out the green products and services in this issue of Connections, and then talk to a DDSG associate about how we can work together to Do Something Green in 2009 ? and beyond. ????
